casa....se vende fsbo

anyone interested in a nice home on a beautiful Caribbean Island, with a gorgeous sea view?
It's a long story...
it's Mexico...there's always mañana
but our mañanas are running out  & we'd like to work on the place next door...

see the email on the bottom left....
sauerfarm@yahoo.com

I definitely need to redo the signage
& make it more visible....contacts, esp.

also, there is a Facebook page my other son made.

So, Nat gets credit for the wonderful mural & paintings on the house
Abe gets credit for helping design and maintain a website...

Facebook.com/RentIsla

We 're still getting it together.... need to add more pics, etc.
Guess if we can't sell, we'll really need to be renting   :)

view to the sea
there are some 'ruins' also, very picturesque

that lot is for sale, but for now... love it bare...

also, there is a nice little path, that goes right down to the sea

A lot of people go there and then turn left (to go North toward town), or right (to go south, Punta Sur, to the end of the island, really very close.)

the rocky coastal cliff does remind me of Maine

your
hammock
     awaits............

Godzilla

Well, ok, not Godzilla.....IGUANA

If you thought that the installation at Punta Sur of the Goddess Ixchel was a bit much
what do you think of this?
again...what is it with having to super-size these structures?

the sign says:   Iguana (reptile)

Icon of the region which are the native species most representative of the region and live to reach 15 years.

personally,
I still like the old sign
(which is still there  :)

            way off to the side

and the real thing!
you can barely see that little guy below on the rocks

I know I have, and can get, some better real iguana pics

so I'll work on that.

but no matter what,
they're going to be overshadowed

by this guy...
I so had liked the way Punta Sur overlook was coming together
with the nice structure...the 'energy' of the easternmost point of Mexico
showcased under this nice sructure with a compass rose or star embedded into the walkway in center

I'm not sure the new installations add anything though    in fact, rather the opposite
so, I just have to lump it together with the 'sculpture garden' things scattered throughout
the natural beauty and awesome landscape which needed no embellishment

As a neighbor and longtime resident here said,
after Wilma they all went down and secretly hoped that category 5 hurricane had swept away the recently installed sculptures....
                         no such luck

Goddess of Punta Sur

New installation.... at Punta Sur, most southern point on the island...  just at the overlook...
seemed a little overwhelming at first, and maybe too brazen, as if a bit of Cancun is seeping into the island... in fact, a couple other statues downtown, also nudes of the sea... feature similar form...

But this is just so...so....well, statuesque....  check it out...   shocked me upon first seeing it...

It's the Goddess Ixchel...most favored goddess here in Mayan history...so, it is suitable...

as the inscription says:
   ... the principal Mayan goddess
Goddess of the rainbow, water, fertility, abundance, the moon, love and of medicine.

this statue has more color than others..

and in a way,
is more fitting and real to the island

I'm still getting used to it though...
It just caught me by surprise I guess.

see the smaller concrete head in in a square
mounted on the wall in background...

I assume they're also Mayan goddessess,
and maybe even Ixchel also...(not sure)

but they've been around awhile & I'm used
 to them...

the name IXCHEL figures into a lot of things on the island...
houses, (casas)    hotels    figurines    Ixchel this & Ixchel that
you kind of almost forget she is embodied as a person....
the statue does help you remember that!

So, these are the 'ladies' of Punta Sur...

Fun Times with Cousins Evelyn & Violet (Evita y Violeta...)

For Chiquitita (Sofia), having cousins come here was super fantastico.  She and Evie had great times together, and strangely enough, probably played more here than at home on the farm...where their usual visits happen.

So....some fun beach times...   (wish I'd gotten more pics...)

these  are from St Pat's Day, which they don't celebrate here too much...but, we tried....

Getting to know
Violet...
still a 'new' cousin...

I can't believe they remembered green clothes!

But, St Pat's is big for them, so they were prepared

The highlight was watching 'Fire Boy'
perform downtown.  (pics of fire boy later...)

Chiquitita often goes home and 'plays' fireboy, with her float ring...(aka, 'ring of fire')
'Gracias' to 'Fav. Aunt Cindy'  :)
   for leaving her floaty ring...
(it gets used more for playing 'fire boy' than for floating, at the moment....

 more beach

sand

pools...

luvin the hammock swing

  I do too ...
who wouldn't?
It's my favorite thing to do...

more good hammock swing pics later...
(have some cute ones of las niñas..)

eat outs...
and Isla is famous for lots of good places to eat....
so, there was either good food on the table...
or..in as on the left...kids on the table!

                                                            mmmmm
we went for
the
chocolate
trifecta
at Como No...    it looks too good to eat
but, we managed...
Cousins...   Primas   (I like the sound of the Spanish better here...)
Good weather   and   Good times..........           Hasta La Proxima....

school things are wearing us out

well, the 'WALL'  has been on ongoing project, and though it 'bookends' our stay here, as the one thing that began soon after we arrived, and is still continuing, and will be until we go...  more on that later...
But, we also are dealing with a 3 year old, since Feb. 13, 7 weeks now.   And while it's going well overall, it's times like this last weekend that make us think twice...

twice..yes....we went through child-rearing once, and one of the most trying parts of that, is dealing with the stuff that happens around school.   All well & good, & being teachers too, of course, we're totally supportive of that, and one reason 'Chiquitita' is here is to be immersed in a Spanish speaking school environment for a short time.
But, when it comes to attending all the practice sessions, getting her there on time, and sitting throughout everyone's rehearsal for the upcoming spring play, (after a normal school day for her) we are realizing our limits and hers.   Plus, I'm tutoring her teacher in English, after school....

But, it's all good, so we're trying to be good sports, and the end product, Sun. eve, was worth it.

to right, before practice.....
'NP'  was showcased... in a hanging heart...
I think it was for 'Nueva Primavera' new spring...
we were trying to figure this whole thing  out...

the best part, Friday evening, was the selection of the girl with the best 'recycled' outfit/dress (I'm assuming boys could have also entered, but none did; only girls. Thankfully, preschoolers didn't have to participate in the end, since I was really worrying about what I could come up with...)     wish I had pics of this, and will work more at finding them....
super creative entries, and so much fun watching the girls model them....    but to the end product...

Sun eve, final performance night.
The kids in 'Pre-Escolar' ended with their Chinese dancing skit. (Sofi, left)
(after doing a jungle animal dance, and one in swimsuits...goggles, for 'We All Live in a Yellow Submarine'
as their earlier on-stage dance skits...

We did realize that Chiquitita will have to have dance lessons if she is going to compete, or even mix, with this crowd.
These little kids can really dance....she, alas, cannot...
well, something to work on....    (Wish Evie were here now!  :)
The room was dark (the final night was at Playa Lancheros) & there was a famous guest conductor from Mexico City. The music part of the program was really good, and all credit goes to the music teacher at Franciso Hernandez de Cordoba School here on Isla. In fact, it seems they have been invited to perform in June at Xcaret Park...wow.  I'd love to be there to see them....

We took some video which I'd hoped to post, but being new at this, & working w/a Mac, I can't seem to upload it....  ! Ay, Caramba !

The Wall, part 3

And now, time to just enjoy what is transpiring with the wall. Lucky for us, son Nat (artist & wedding photographer) just wrapped up a visit here with wife, Rachel and kids Evie & Violet.  And as we joked with another Isla resident, you always make use of your company!  (And they are usually happy to help out...)
                 More minds, more ideas;

Here is Nat after sealing the wall, and
now applying a background, base coat.

( Sr. Ruinas, below, steadying the ladder in the extreme wind we've been having... or is he?)

check out those palm trees, spaced along the wall

and here he is climbing a ladder to apply matching light blue paint to the small upper balcony, tying the wall to the house.

So lucky we got a real artist on the job.

It's starting to come together.
And as part of the design is on the wall, it is also tied into the side of the house.
        so creative.
Lots of walls around...but not many linked to their counterpart house quite like this.

Right now he's working in brown, with tree branches.  It makes me think a little of Tim Burton's designs in the Nightmare Before Xmas...something a little eerie and shadowy...

Looks like the brown is applied:
Wall,  Balcony, house...

Time for orange.   Be bold.

As a neighbor remarked, it looks so Mexican.
That's what I love about Mexico...the colors.
But in fact, this kind of has more of a Japanese flavor.
It seems to reference the Japanese art of 'Ikebana' or flower arranging,  using a simple stem of flowers in a dramatic way.

But either way...it's fun...whimsical & light.

And some experimenting goes on too...on the left, balcony,
he was painting in some little spokes into the center of the flower...as per the original design...
but in the end, we decided we liked the open, simplistic look better.  More imaginative...     keep it simple, I guess...

Here come the birds.
A couple of birds, one on the house, one on the wall--

Casa Colibri'  is the name of the house, though no one probabaly knows that.  Having a name is important, and expected...
The house is kind of small, like a hummingbird...
(it's a popular fun word in Spanish also...accent on end)

I'll get the name either on the side of the house,
or on the balcony...      which is best?

Voila'      It's looking great-  (a pair of pants got sacrificed in the effort  :)        all art is sacrifice, right?

y gracias              (can't wait for your next visit !  :)
                                                                                    (Nat, Violet, Evelyn,Rachel)
